Question About Creating IPs gaming computer builder

So, I have a (VirtualBox) virtual machine, and I'm planning on setting a static IP address for it that would be different from the IP of my host computer. However, how is creating my own IP address like this okay? I assume it could be problematic, as there would then be the possibility of two people using the same IP, or even people creating new IPs to hide their identity for malicious reasons.
