I am a computer n00b, and while I hope I am not posting in the wrong subreddit about this, it seems like you all could help (If I am in the wrong place, I apologize and ask for advice about where to ask the following question--I did examine 'r/gaminglaptops' but it seems relatively inactive and I sought a few suggestions quickly.)
I have an HP star wars themed laptop from Christmas of last year right now. I know, I know, Carly Fiorina and Disney Star Wars reboots really aren't necessarily the greatest on their alone, let alone together-- but I was stupid. I don't play hardcore games, I just like Paradox strategy games (EU4, HOI4, Stellaris), Total War stuff, and occasionally Supreme Commander or some older RTS like that. Unfortunately, this thing's hard drive and fan have already had to be replaced without me having done anything wrong and it just cannot run even non-game things (ie Microsoft Word, Google Chrome) without freezing up, occasionally becoming totally unresponsive and demanding a manual shut down.
Anyways, I got it through Best Buy being a normie and what-not and they've tried to fix it 4 times now ("free service" agreement--that you pay for up-front-- has been well-used by now,) but clearly no luck. The computer's problems have only grown worse over time, even as I remove games and files and turn settings down on the remaining Paradox games.
Do I get a new computer? If so, any particular model or brand that I should seek?
Do I go back to Best Buy for the 5th time, seeking a final actual repair?
Do I go to a different computer place?
TL;DR: A normie who just wants to play grand strategy games/Total War games and do his homework at college needs advice on how to fix a shitty gaming laptop or how to replace it.
