CHKDSK stalled at 'compacting the security descriptor stream'. How to? gaming computer builder

My D drive seems to be corrupted beyond repair at the time of this post - I will let CHDSK continue over night to see if it continues. However if it doesn't, is it possible to delete it and create a new partition for it? I could boot Unbuntu and do it through that?
