What's a good option for a single board computer right now? Should I even be looking at one for my application? gaming computer builder

I want to use a single board computer in my workshop. I need one powerful enough for everyday tasks and streaming media to watch or listen to. I'd prefer 4gb of ram, the ability to hook up an SSD, and if it could manage running some kind of cad design software for simple operations that would be wonderful, but not entirely necessary.

Is there a SBC for my application? I kind of want to go with one because I have a small solar power system in my shop which I will be expanding soon and I'd like to run the computer right directly off my batteries. Would I be better off picking up an old i3 laptop, mounting it to the ceiling and running normal peripherals to it?
