RAM question gaming computer builder

Hey guys,

I really want to upgrade my RAM since it's the weakest part of my gaming PC (1 stick of 8gb). My brother has no use of his 2 sticks of 4gb RAM of the same voltage and speed as my RAM.

I installed it tonight and Windows is showing 16gb of RAM. My brother wants to sell it to me way cheaper than buying another stick of 8gb of RAM. Is it worth buying it off him performance wise or should I spend the extra cash on the extra 8gb stick?

Any help at all is appreciated
