I am looking at a new build. I named him Maximus. I need some help with making sure that I got the right and compatiable parts before I go and ship him. Link to amazon list: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1N4B3RXLVK99K?&sort=default (btw this is my first build)
The motherboard I have is the GIGABYTE GA-B75M-D3V. I've had motherboard for a few years now but until now I never had to get into the bios so it never really bothered me. Now, when I try to get into my PC it boots to what I think is the splash settings, but I can't get into the bios using delete, F8,F9,F12,F2 etc. I can't do anything because I need to get into the bios to reinstall Windows, In order to actually be able to use the the fucking computer. Someone please help me, :( thanks.
Disclaimer: I am a noob.
I just got a new PC and I need help getting it set up. After getting it set up, and plugged in, there seems to be a problem. I have the computer turned on, but the monitor isn't working. When I turn on the monitor, it just says "Going to sleep" and then turns off. I've re-plugged in every cable twice, but nothing works.

Like the title says windows 10 is not updating for me. I went to check for updates, and it showed that updates were available. Apparently it tried to automatically update I guess, but its stuck at 0%. Its been like this for about a week now. Please help
I've outgrown the supported hard drive space on my hard drive and in my case. What is a good enclosure and SATA card for 4 hard drives? Thanks!
Hi guys! My harddrive from my 8 year old PC just died :(. The CPU was also getting extremely outdated lol. My question today is...advice on the current best money efficient gaming hardware! My past machine was an HP desktop had a quad core 2.80 GHz AMD cpu (its ass for todays standards). I also upgraded it with an nvidia geforce 660 TI graphics card. I understand the most efficient way to use my money is to build my own machine but time is a severe issue for me. Would it be bad to buy a pre-built machine off websites such as ibuypower/cyberpowerpc? I don't mind spending a little bit extra if I can get the convenience of having the machine built for me, or would going to somewhere like walmart/office depot and buying a machine there be better? I could really use some advice. I ideally would like a machine that could run GTA 5 (really any future gaming titles not just GTA lol) at possibly max settings (i have been out of the gaming loop for awhile so I don't know how hard that is forgive me!) and maybe future battlefield titles. I am not a HUGEEE graphics nerd, but I am a huge FPS nerd. I don't mind dropping the graphics settings down e.t.c to increase FPS and I know I will have to do this in the future as my hardware ages! Please help me guys and thanks so much. Feel free to link me to other subreddits as well
Would it be possible to have an extremely efficient gaming PC for the next 5-8 years for around $500-$600?

Sorry I don't know which subreddit I should put it into.
Hoping you guys can help me. Have a budget of about 800 to 1000 dollars. In the US. Need a desktop that will mainly be used for QuickBooks and word documents. Will never be used for gaming. The bigger the monitor the better. Sorry if this is too vague. Not very good with specs. Thanks in advance!

Okay, So I have no idea what i'm doing when looking for a new computer when it comes to specs and stuff. My laptop is slowly going to shit so I'm looking for a desktop that can run Counter Strike:Go pretty well.
I only have around $500 budget. I saw this one on Amazon and was wondering if it was alright for the price and how it would handle. https://www.amazon.com/CyberpowerPC-Gamer-GUA880-Gaming-Desktop/dp/B011B9E928/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493157492&sr=8-2&keywords=gamer+computer
Any suggestions or help is welcomed, thank you.
Any suggestions on how to detect, find, and delete if theres a virus? Hubs was using laptop for school and it started moving without him touching it. We don't know how to deal with that.
I was trying to find a way to ask this question without referencing the subject but I realized might as well come out and say it cause it's something a lot of us deal with.
What's the best way to hide a porn folder?
Call me old fashioned but I like having some saved porn in case of emergencies haha. What is an easy way to hide a folder that fulfills the following requirements:
-Is completely hidden from my wife who uses the computer fairly frequently but really only for surface things (Netflix, Email, Office, Web Browsing, General File Exploring). This includes having just like a password protected folder somewhere visible because that would still raise questions.
-Is easy to access by myself when I want it to be. (The fewer steps I have to take to access it the better)
-Isn't just a hidden folder because there are other hidden folders that are on my machine that I want to be visible all the time via the show hidden folders option.
This may or may not be the right place to ask this but do you have anything for me?
I just found a Dell DHS in my house which my brother may have brought in a long time ago. I opened it up and it has no HDD and has an old school replacement CD drive. I did a little bit of research on it and it appears to be a "legacy machine", meaning outdated? I'm looking for more info on this and was wondering if this thing is worth anything? Is it worthy of sale on craigslist or straight to the recycling bin? Thanks.

I currently have a acer c302 chromebook but i want something that i can occasionally run LoL and have the portability that my chromebook has. The surface book looks promising but it's about 2000$ CND. That's insane. Any ideas?
Hi All!
I don't have the best understanding of computers, but I'm keen to learn and buy a computer that will provide good performance and longevity.
I've posted the link above because many 'gaming computers' on eBay look great, but I understand many aren't. Any advice on the computer listed above would be really appreciated, and if possible, I'd appreciate any general advice on buying a decent computer. I don't have a great budget, probably around £400 or so, but I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks for all your help!
My GOD, is this even real?
How do you guys compare the AMD Ryzen 7 with this Intel Core i7?
People are saying its gives you the same performance and with half the price. It's getting crazy positive reviews. I'm very tempted to buy it once I have the money.
I don't want to have to rent a router/modem for $10 a month so I was going to obviously buy my own. I don't know a ton about routers so I'm asking here. I'm going to be getting 330mbps internet so I need something that can handle that. I'm not looking to spend over $150 and anything under that is preferred.
Here are the specifications that I need for it to be compatible:
Modem DOCIS Type DOCSIS 3.0
Downstream Channel(s) 24 Channels
Upstream Channel(s) 8 Channels
More specifically an ASRock z87 extreme 3, which has 2 PCIe 3.0's. Right now I wan't to get an aftermarket cooler for my r9 290x GPU but the one I have in mind is quite bulky and if I am to fit it, I'd have to move it down to the lower PCIe slot so I don't have to remove my sound card. My question is will there be any difference in performance whatsoever if I did that because I faintly remember reading somewhere that you should always put your GPU in the upper PCI slot for reasons that escape me at the moment?
I'm studying for exams and they both seem to be the same to me. They both use commands such as MOV or ADD to manipulate registers and stuff like that.
I'm starting up a facebook group that will be doing raffles for gaming equipment. anything from keyboards, motherboards, monitors and graphics cards. you name it. the group will have a limited amount of users and only a small amount of total raffles. max entries would be 60. usually with a $5-20 entry. Would anyone be interested in joining this? Message me if so and i can get you added.
So I tried plugging in the hard drive into a different computer and the same thing happened. Does this mean it's a hard drive problem? All different parts except for the hard drive. But the situation is that I can't get into the bios on EITHER computers I tried F2, F12, F9, Delete, all different things and it never works. Anybody know what the issue could be?
I need a laptop with 16 gigs of ram, and a really good processor to run programs like CATIA and ANSYS. I also don't want something that dies in 1 hour. No touchscreen.
I'm looking at the HP Spectre but I'm really not sure.
I recently built a new gaming pc, and my old one is gathering dust. It's really not that old (late 2014 i think?), and I'm just wondering for some opinions on what to do with it. I don't want to sell it, and most people have told me to make some sort of streaming/media center with it. I like the idea, but I'm just curious if anyone has other ideas. Thanks!

I am studying for an exam and I was trying to figure out what is the point of having many layers of virtual machines. Eg. Where you have an actual machine "0" with its own machine language and then a virtual machine on top of all that, with its own machine language and then another virtual machine above that with its own machine language. Any help is appreciated.
I am new to Computer stuff(Not computer but its hardware stuff), I want to know more about processors, HDD, SSD, and other like RAM and memory. When someone on a forum is talking about e.g: AMD 6 I don't understand it.Like what is dual core and GHz? Please Don't give bad answers.
Anyone has a front panel connector pinout for this MB? I put it in a normal ATX case but need to figure out where to plug reset and power switch
I'm looking into getting a new desktop for editing video and games aswell, I have no idea about what parts to get so if anyone could give advice it would be appropriate
Hello My motherboard is a MSI H87-G43 Gen 3 motherboard pretty old, my friend also has a Gen 3 and it runs on his 1080 TI. The Card and CPU I Want are,
Gigabyte Radeon RX 480 4GB and i5 6600 Just not sure if my old motherboard is compatable with these.. thanks
This is probably a simple fix since I'm new to building computers. But I just installed the MSI GTX 1080 graphics card to my PC and it worked until I signed in, then I think the PC restarted but I'm not too sure as the screen went black as soon as the log in finished.
The card has 2 pins for power, a 6 pin and a 6+2. Does this require 2 separate VGA leads from the power supply? Or will 1 lead which splits into 6 and 6+2 be fine for it? I assume this will be my problem. Other than that, any other standard issues I might be having?
Thanks in advance
So I was messing around with the sound options on my laptop and i accidentally disabled my "speakers and dual headphones" device. Then when I re-enabled it again, every time i plug my headphones in it still plays sound through the speakers and I have no idea how to fix it. Can anyone help me?

I have a gaming PC fit with 1TB Hard Drive, 250 SSD, GTX 980, Intel i7-4790. I bought this to play games on, something I don't do very often anymore, not nearly enough to justify a rig like this. I was thinking of selling it and buying a laptop, is this a good idea? I mostly use my computer for photoshop, ableton live, audio production, video editing sort of things, would a Mac be the way to go?
What technology needs a better tutorial or manual?
For editing drone videos in 1440p some in 4k..and also multiscreen ultradwide 1440p youtube videos etc.
using a 12gb ddr3 ram gtx 1060
just wondering how it compares to new cpus nowadays if videoediting tasks/1440p usage would see a significant ugprade if mobo/cpu is upgraded, or if the 4650k will handle just fine?
apologize in advance if this is posted in wrong thread/reddit.
So my devices have their access to our home wifi disabled, I know I can connect 'new devices' without issue and I was searching for a work around that would allow my already disabled devices to perhaps appear as a new device to the router, or anyway to get past the lock. Thanks.

I have a faily new computer with windows 10 which suddenly stopped recognizing the cd drive.
The drive will open and close and has power, but its not listed under "drives" or anywhere in the computer. When I put a disc in it does nothing.
I tried to check and see if the drivers were out of date but it says there is no disc drive.
Any suggestions?

I'm selling off stuff to fund my new build, and one thing I'm going to sell is my old laptop. It's probably about 2 years old, it's just off the warranty, but it works very well still. Asus Zenbook UX303LN, touchscreen, 1TB, i5 4210U 1.7-2.7GHz, GT840M graphics card, 8GB ram. Only issue is that the hinge is broken, and cannot hold up the screen. I paid $1700 NZD (about $1250 USD, I think) for it, I'm not expecting much but I'm just wondering how much it could go for.

First of all, I am not computer savvy so any hardware or software details are a bit beyond me but I will try as much as I can to get any info.
So I have a laptop that I've had for the last 4-5 years that I use primarily for playing games (Civ V, Starcraft etc). The battery doesn't work on it and hasn't for the last few years but that is no real issue for me.
Up until 2 months ago I could use it pretty much where ever I wanted (providing there was a power point to tap into) but now it will only work on one power point in my room. I have tried plugging it into other power points all over my house and at friends and it will start the boot up sequence and then die. Every time.
What the hell is causing this???
If it was a faulty cable or dodgy plug I could understand, but the fact it will only work on the plug in my room doesn't make any sense.
I would take it in to have it looked at by a professional, but I cannot afford that.
Any help with the problem would be amazing!
And thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions!

Hey I am a online entrepreneur and I am moving out and I need a great fast computer but I don't want to spend more than $600 anybody have any suggestions?
The school I go to usually offers students to buy their laptop (MacBook Air). I am soon graduating and I'm not 100% sure if I should buy it or not (about 350$). It's a 13inch mid-2013 MacBook. The specs are:
Processor: 1,3 GHz Intel Core i5, RAM Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB
I asked a friend who knows about computers and he said that I should buy it because the laptop is only 3 years old, the specs are good and it only costs 350$. He also said that I wouldn't find a laptop with that kind of spec worth 350$. At first, I didn't believe him, but then I looked around on the web and he was right. I also looked at a site which is the equivalent to Ebay in America ( I live in Europe ) and MacBook air mid-2013s were selling for 500$.
I have used the laptop pretty much every day, everything from school work, watching movies and playing games.
So my question is, should I buy it or not?
I am looking to get a new computer and i have a budget of about 600$ ( I know that's not a lot). from most of my research I can build a decent desktop in that range for gaming, but I know nothing about building a computer. I need help with maybe links or someone can direct me to a good site to purchase one. Every site i go to has a million options and words and numbers i know nothing about. I usually just play World of Warcraft even though it dead, and league of legends. and then random indie games. so nothing to new that requires crazy specs. Thanks for all the help!...I hope.

I want to connect 2 1080p monitors to it, and possibly buy an oculus rift or htc vive in the future. I was thinking that a 1070 would be a good choice, and should allow for some futureproofing over a gtx 1060/rx480-580. I don't plan on doing any overclocking on the cpu or gpu other than the built-in boost clocks. Can anyone give a recommendation for which brand/style of gpu would be good for this computer?
My graphics card is an AMD Radeon R7 M270, which is shit. My Intel graphics is Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500. I'm looking to replace my AMD Radeon with a PNY GeForce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5 and I want to know if and how I'm to replace my graphics card. I've read that this isn't possible if the graphics is integrated. However, it looks like I have a discrete graphics card. Thanks in advance!

I'm just trying to see if I need to call Comcast about this. I have restarted the velop, went and found new channels (via the app) and I'm going to have my sister disconnect and reconnect the modem today.
Other than that I'm not sure what is going on. Happens wireless and via ethernet... We have only 3 devices actively using the Internet and one is streaming at 1080p.
This happens when trying to stream 4k or 1080p from NY laptop. It is spec'd out and brand new so I know it isn't the device.
Help?
It's been a few years since I built one and just want to know what the latest is?
I'm not actually sure if it's even an Ethernet adapter. My dad got a new computer (A) so I took his old one (B) into my room. Well, computer B is not wireless and my room is on the opposite side of the house from the router. Computer A came with a small USB that makes computer B capable of being wireless. However, whenever I plug the USB in, the internet on computer B and all other devices becomes agonizingly slow. I'm not sure what to do about this issue. I haven't been able to find anything else online because I can't figure out what the USB actually is called and what to search.

My AMD 3.5 GHZ CPU was getting too hot, so I had to enable power saver mode and the CPU would never run faster than 3.0 GHZ. I bought an Arctic Alpine 64 CPU cooler to replace the stock one. I disabled power save mode. I used Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. At first, temperatures were only a few degrees better. After I left the PC on overnight however, temperatures are great! As I am writing this, the temperatures are in the high forties.
Before you do anything else, move your modem away from anything that could be emitting RFID: Computer, laptop, table, smartphone, wireless printer, router, etc.
Backstory: Recently I began experiencing connectivity issues with my computer/modem/router assembly. I was completely unable to connect to the internet. I had an old Docsis Surfboard 6121 3.0 modem. I tried various things, such as checking the cables, connecting and disconnecting the modem and router, etc. I called Comcast, my cable internet provider, and they reset the modem several times, and said that the problem could be the router.
I then called Netgear customer support. I was rather strong-armed into purchasing an expensive tech support package. Faced with possible ongoing problems and having no idea what the problem might be, I made the purchase. Over the next few days I spent approximately NINE HOURS on the phone with tech support. We reset the modem and router. We removed and replaced drivers. My cellphone, tablet and the other user on the network were able to connect wirelessly. The Netgear representative pronounced the router to be sound, and said that the problem was likely my computer. So, I had spent the better part of an entire day on the phone and spent $200 on NOTHING.
I called HP, as I had an HP all-in-one that was about 13 months old. As it was JUST out of warranty (of course), I had to purchase an extended care package, which carries a $70 termination fee. We troubleshot exhaustively, and finally attempted to do a System Recovery, which failed. The HP representative pronounced my computer to be dead, and suggested I needed a new one.
I bought a new computer. It cost 500.00.
Upon connecting the new computer, I immediately began experiencing the same connectivity issues. The modem kept resetting itself. I again called Comcast Cable and the representative, presented with the facts to date, said that my modem was at the end of its life. I could accept that as the modem was quite old.
I bought a new modem. It cost $100.00
Upon connecting the new modem, I immediately began experiencing the same connectivity issues! I had now spent approximately $1000.00 and was unable to connect to the internet. I'm not a weeper but wow, I was at my wits' end. I need this computer as I work from home about 50% of the time, inputting data and uploading photos, making reports etc. This situation was baffling and unacceptable!
I called Comcast cable, and the representative said that the issue was probably that my internet service was too slow, and that I might have a better time with the Blast service (I had recently downgraded). I consented to allow the service to be upgraded again to Blast.
It didn't work.
I called Comcast again and demanded (I was a little upset at this point) a technician come out and test the lines. The tech was experienced (I thought), and tested both outside and inside lines and pronounced them to be sound. He said my brand new modem might be new out of the box however it was not the latest and possibly could not handle the internet service.
Rather than spend another cent on anything, I started to scour the internet for other possibilities. One experienced writer said that it would likely be an 80% probability the problem was connectivity. Now I knew that the connectivity was not the problem. Other possibilities were slim, but I was willing to try anything. One, which he said was about a one percent probability, was RFID from the computer or other items affecting the connection. They suggested the modem always be about 3-5 feet away from the computer and other wifi items. So, I moved the modem to a bookshelf, about four feet away from the computer.
I have not had an issue since.
I just got a new OMEN 870-207na PC. When it's in idle/not running heavy software, there is a subtle squeak every second. When I AM running a game or heavy software it either stops or the fans are so loud that I cant hear it. I have blown air in all my fans, not sure what else to do. Will it just go away? is it just normal?
PCs are a necessary piece of regular day to day existence; it is abstract how the world moves today with many individuals depending on PCs to complete things. You can couple your PC with a projector, gaming console, scanner, switch or printer to make your life more straightforward relying upon what undertakings you have close by. Turned my comp off one night (after waking it up from sleep) cause I went drinking with some friends. Came back the next day to it being pretty sluggish. Almost as if my comp doesnt have enough RAM or something. the desktop and stuff on the internet runs as if its a game running at 20 fps. and my games suffer because of this. I have tried plenty of solutions so far and it still hasn't helped.
For reference my specs are: i7 7700k Corsair H100i v2 water cooler EVGA GTX 1080 sc edition G-Skill Ripjaws 16 GB DDR4 RAM Corsair RM 650w PSU
I built this comp in february so it is still fairly new.
If anyone has any ideas please comment back asap. Its really annoying trying to play games and do simple pc stuff with sluggish performance.
Hi I have my main screen plugged into my video card with a DVI cord. I found an old vga only monitor which I plan on plugging into my motherboard to use as a secondary screen. Is it bad to run an igpu while my main gpu is active? I only plan on leaving email/cameras up on the secondary while I game and do everything else on the primary. I just want to know if this will fry my CPU or not cuz I'm not the most computer savy person.
Can anyone recommend a cable for me? I bought one off amazon and it doesn't work. Need to connect a 30" 2.5k dell monitor.
I just got onto world of Warcraft in over a year and it's too laggy to be enjoyable.
This is a new computer btw, not even a year old. But yes, it is only 4gb ram.
Is there a way to find out if the lag is because of the computer or just my internet?
I hope it's the computer so I have an excuse to get a new one..
Looking for any motherboard that you don't use or don't need
I hope I did this right (This is my first time)...
...Anyways, I want to find a way to get an 34" ultra-wide, and thunderbolt 3 external GPU equipped a 1050 ti or better, all under $400 USD. The 1050 ti I have found is $130, so I recommend that as the max GPU price.
I went out and bought a GTX 1080 FTW for £540 the other week, but after getting it, it's dawned upon me that I don't really need it at all as I only play osu!, CS:GO and Dark Souls 3, I still want a good card that can get around ~90fps 1080p, but also want some futureproofing. Would it make sense for me to get a GTX 1070 and save £200 or a 1060 6gb and save £300. I'm only worrying as there's a likelihood for the 1080 to drop in price and I don't want to fuck myself over in the near future.
Here's the story... My computer got unplugged from a friend and when I turned it back on, the desktop and Google Chrome was laggy.
A month or so ago when visiting home I turned on my PC and noticed that nothing was happening. I looked inside the case and the CPU fan was not spinning. All of the case fans were going, and all of the LED's were lit up. Anyone know of a common issue or a possible fix? I feel like the CPU may just be dead but I'm not sure what would cause that.
Specs:
2x ASUS GTX 760 in SLI
Intel Core i5-4670k
ASUS Z87-A Motherboard
16GB DDR3 1600mHz RAM
Not sure what else would be useful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
