Does having 16gigs of RAM a huge upgrade over 8? Or is it even worth it? gaming computer builder

Hey guys I recently built my pc with only 8gigs of RAM and I was wondering what the benefits would be or even if it would be worth upgrading to 16, I know a lot of games nowadays require 8 at least but I guess I just dont understand the big buzz in having more RAM. Oh and its DDR4 if that makes a diffrence! Thankyou for your help and if you need anymore info just ask away!!
