Any help guys? gaming computer builder

I was on my computer about a week ago and I was on YouTube and the screen just went black and the computer turned off, I switched it back it on and text came up saying "no bootable device found" so I went into the bios menu and no HDD or SDD was found. I thought if I installed ubuntu on to a USB and plugged it in I could use that as an OS but that was not to be as it was quite awhile since I used ubuntu I started using it without installing it first to see the basics just refresh my memory, I then went on the installation process, everything was running smoothly until I got to the partition menu where it was blank and apparently ubuntu is installed on the FAT32 which the ubuntu version isn't compatible with so I'm stuck with just using it without installing so every time I switch off I have to redownload chrome etc, my friend has a windows 7 product key which he gave me so if I go to Microsoft and download the ISO of windows 7 and downloaded that on my laptop would that make any difference? Or am I completely screwed?

Thanks in advance.
