Hi Redditors, I am not very familiar with computers, and have been trying to add a samsung 850 Evo 500gb ssd into my computer. The steps I took to do this are as follows
- Connected ssd to sata->usb 3.0 conncetion
- Connected ssd to computer
- Formatted ssd as ntfs
- Used macrium reflect free to clone my hdd (see images) to ssd
- I then tried to boot up my system from the ssd, but this results in what I assume is an error becuase it decides to boot with my hdd instead (i changed my boot up priorities in the BIOS to make ssd 1, and hdd 2). I checked to see which drive my system booted with and it was with my hdd
- I decided to also take out my hdd and try to boot up, but this resulted in an error with Windows saying it could not boot up as files were missing
I linked to images showing my system, the software I used, and the information in the disk management software. Any help with this would be appreciated, I am not sure where I went wrong, but probably did something incorrectly. I was not looking to do a clean install of windows, but rather clone my hdd to ssd and use the ssd for booting up. Thank you for any help.
