Maxed out Macbook Pro 15 or get a desktop gaming computer builder

I'm going to college soon and I'm wondering if I should get the MacBook Pro 15 maxed out or a Windows desktop. I currently have a 14 inch Macbook Pro from 2014. I'm going into engineering and I also use Adobe CC, different programming softwares, and some 3d rendering. I was thinking that I could get an external gpu to connect to my mac through thunderbolt and run Windows 10 on bootcamp rather than get a windows desktop.

I like laptops more, but I'll get a desktop if necessary.
