-A bit of cringy intro, woohoo! Hello lovely peoples of Reddit, this might become a long post(if you're not interested in reading life stories of random people on internet, you can skip ahead to next paragraph for my question) with bad grammar since English isn't my first language, and I apologize before hand.
-Lame life story So to put my computer related side of my life on a short story, I was always interested on computer gaming and it led to the interest on how computers work, and I was willing to take them apart to experiment and have fun with it, but as our family situation was tight and one computer we had was strictly for my dad's job, I never got to do so. My family situation is still pretty tight and I have to give up some money for rent when I work, but I found out that my mom has been saving some money to buy me a computer as my highschool graduation gift. I was excited as I saw the chance of building a computer of my own was coming true, but soon I felt foolish for not studying any computer knowledge thinking I will never have enough money to experiment with computers.
-Question So here is where I need help, I have no knowledge of computers whatsoever, and I don't even know where to start, my ultimate goal would be to build a computer of my own, but I know that that won't happen overnight. I'm trying to take my first step into computer building, where would be a good place to start? A good book, post, website, or blog.. I'll be more than glad to take tips and informations. I'm planning to study it over the Spring break, and at least get the list of things I'll need to buy and amount of money I'll need by the end of break. My savings and my mom's is about $200 combined, if more money is needed, I'm planning to work during the summer, and I think I'll be able to make about $200 more.
-Use of computer The computer I'll be building will be used for at least next four to five years as I'll use it to do school work, learn coding, practice drawing, and play games. As for the gaming side of use, my kindest friend recently gifted me a game called 'The Talos Principle', and I was very excited as I deeply enjoyed 'Portal' series, but I quickly found out it wouldn't run on my share laptop between me and my mom, so if my hand-built computer can run that game fine, I think that will be the only requirement it could have on that side! ..unless this game requires super high definition of one-of-a-kind computer and I just don't know... If that's the case, I can always settle with smooth run of 'Borderlands2(I got it while it was on 78% off sale! Steam made me love Christmas and new years again XD)' or 'Team Fortress2.'
P.S: I tried to read thread rules and I think I didn't see any rule saying I can't post questions, but let me know if I violated any rules, I'll fix it up or just sadly delete the post :')
-Your sufferings of reading sentences of bad grammar has ended! Yey! Many thanks! Hope all goes well :)
