I have an old Sony Vaio desktop running xp. We always shut it down by putting it to sleep, because it takes too long to turn on when it's off, and it never wants to come out of hibernation. This computer isn't used frequently--perhaps once a week on average, or less. AFAIK, no new programs or changes were made (though I suppose it's possible), and a few months ago it started waking up, seemingly on it's own. The mouse is turned off, and the keyboard is on a tray that stores under the tabletop, so nothing is falling on it.
It always seems to happen twice per week. At first, it was Thurs. night at 9:55 and I forget the other day. For the past few weeks it's been just after 3 am Sunday morning, and again Tues. morning around 10 am.
I tried running powercfg -lastwake and powercfg -devicequery wake_armed in the command prompt, but it says both are invalid. Automatic updates are turned off. I looked in BIOS, and wake on LAN is toggled off.
I've looked around on various help forums, and tried a few things that were suggested, but nothing has worked. Can anyone help? (I'm not super tech-savvy, so try to dumb it down for me a little, thanks!)
