What do I do about my laptop and dust? gaming computer builder

I use my laptop on my bed mostly, this is due to not having a desk... I have a cooling pad and recently got my laptop cleaned out. Would it be wise for me to rest my cooling pad on something like a tray? Or is it not worth it and should I just leave it with juts a cooling pad? Thanks
