VGA Issues gaming computer builder

Hi all, I currently connect my laptop to an external monitor using a VGA cable, unfortunately because the cable runs right next to my power supply the image flickers continuously. The monitor also has a DVI connection but my LT does not. To solve the issue, I was thinking about purchasing a DVI to HDMI converter for the monitor and connecting the LT and monitor through a HDMI cable (please see link)

Would this stop the continuous flicker? Also would I likely have any issues with display quality, resolutions on the external monitor if using a converter?
