Help with an old Toshiba L655D that has dying USB ports. gaming computer builder

I need those ports working for work, and at the moment, a small bottlecap provides enough pressure for the USB to work by tilting the drive slightly. I know that's a temporary fix. I have an unused SATA plugin, one about the size of an HDMI plug. Can that be used with a converter to run USB?
