Running hard drive in bubble wrap gaming computer builder

Putting together a server on a flat surface. I plan to run the hard drive in the anti-static shield, wrapped in bubble wrap, just the way it came shipped. Is there any concern of this killing the hard drive such as via overheating or static electricity? Do hard drives even produce heat?

I already read a number of contradicting threads claiming that antistatic wrap will either fry your components or protect them. Both sides seem very ardent in their arguments.
