I'm trying to help my boyfriend out with a temporary internet solution. HELP gaming computer builder

So I have an Ethernet to Ethernet/USB cable that I assume I could use on his laptop to share the internet to the desktop. I just want to make sure if this works. I haven't seen much about it online so I came here. Most of the videos use an ethernet to ethernet cable but id be using the USB to Ethernet cable. Will this work?
