Any upgrades I can do to make this laptop run better? gaming computer builder

So heres the situation: My dad has an old HP laptop laptop and it runs AWFUL, crazy slow. I found an old HP G62 laptop to give him. It has an AMD atheleon II p340, 3gb of ram, about 300gb of hard drive I believe. I got windows 10 for it as well. I saw people upgrading the CPU's and such on the laptop but I realize its a very old motherboard so I obviously couldn't place something current in there. All that being said, does anyone have any ideas on how I can make this faster for him? He uses it for web browsing, Email, blue prints, 3D renders, and filling out a ton of different sheets for his work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
