my 24gm77 monitor won't work gaming computer builder

hello! i have my monitor connected with a display port to hdmi cable so it can support 144hz frequency, but whenever i boot up the monitor (with the display port to hdmi cable) it says "no signal please check your connection". And whichever input i choose it says that. BUT it does work if i plug the monitor to the computer using a hdmi cable, but hdmi doesen't support 144hz so.... that's kind off a bummer. is the graphichs card at fault?
