I have a laptop and two monitors, but can only get display on one monitor gaming computer builder

I am trying to get a three-screen display. I have my laptop for one and two external monitors. My laptop has an HDMI port and three USB ports. From one monitor, I have a VGA to HDMI adapter and that has worked fine thus far. On the other monitor, I have a HDMI to USB adapter, of which I have an HDMI cord connected to the monitor to the adapter, and the adapter plugged into my computer. However, I cannot get anything to display on the HDMI/USB adapter screen. Any tips?
