Chromebook as a mobile everyday Laptop gaming computer builder

Hi guys - I'm a second year mechanical engineer and I currently have a Lenovo W550s as my everyday laptop. Everything aside this is a beast and I got it over a desktop due to the fact that I've been renting at places all across the city and it's easy in terms of mobility. However, I only take CAD design courses every second semester for the rest of my degree (3 years - specializing in CAD design) and this 15.6" beast with an external battery is a little much to carry around as I find that I'm only doing general browser surfing and youtube music for assignments everyday. I'm also a bit concerned about it breaking as it takes up so much space in my bag. You guy's think its worth it to dish the 200$ out for a chromebook to take to and from school everyday, or am I being illogical and should just put up with my laptop?

P.S. I have an external hard drive with all of my files on it so that isn't a worry.
