Old PC From 2006 That Looks to be Very Promising - New GPU gaming computer builder

So, I have an old PC that I've owned since 2006, it is a Dell XPS 410/Dimension 9200. Now, I have a relatively good laptop, a Dell Insprion 15 5559, that I've been using as my main. However, it isn't the best for low-end gaming. At this point, you might be wondering how a computer form 2006 could remedy this. Well, the other day, I decided to see how it could run the only PC game that it had, Minecraft. on my laptop, at low settings, (Fast graphics, Vsync off, etc...) it runs anywhere between 40-60 FPS, with framedrops down to 20 FPS. However, on the XPS, with the same settings, it ran between 90-133+ FPS, with drops down to 50 FPS. Even bring up the in-game graphics to Fancy, I still get a solid 70 FPS. Needless to say, I'm a bit suprised. My 2006 desktop beat my 2016 laptop by a long-shot. Now I'm looking for a better graphics card, as my NVIDIA 8600 GT sounds like a Boeing leaving a runway, and I fear it overheating (I have the side panel taken off, and have a house fan on high pointed towards my Card and CPU). Currently, I'm looking at a GTX Dual-Fan 1050, a GTX 295, or an R9 270X. Of course, I'm expecting a bottleneck, but I'm also looking to upgrade my CPU and RAM to help leviate this. I come here now to ask if anyone on this Sub has any suggestions for a new graphics card for my computer, or any other suggestions to help optimize my PC

Note: Every component is a stock component that came with the System. It has not been upgraded at all. I am not looking to upgrade my motherboard, though the DDR2 RAM is dissapointing. I really just what to optimize, not rebuild. This is just a light gaming rig for me, as I don't really game, and I only really mind framerates below 30 FPS. I don't want a new rig, as my budget of anywhere between $200-$300 could not buy or build a great gaming rig. Plus, I already have something relatively mediocre that I'd rather just upgrade. Thank you.
