Getting a new GPU and want recommendations gaming computer builder

I have a dell PC with an intel i7-2600 CPU 3.4 GHz, AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series, and a 480(?)W power supply. I'm not positive on the wattage of the power supply but my GPU has always been very hot and I didn't realize until recently but now I have a lot of GPU troubles. I want a new GPU but wanted your advice on what to get which is compatible and how to make sure my problem doesn't happen again.
