windows problem gaming computer builder

Yo,

I'll make this brief. I booted up my PC (windows 7) one day and got the 'an error has occurred and windows has been shut down' blue screen. I did some problemfixing and I can access my pc again but it's really, REALLY slow. I figured it's something to do with the drivers or windows.

I bought a disk for windows 8, but for some reason when I try to update my windows it just says 'The update can't be completed and will be cancelled'.

Even worse, for some reason I can't format/refresh to factory settings for the same reason. It just says that it can't be done without any information about it.

Is it possible for me to delete the entire windows folder and insert the windows disc to reinstall windows? Or will this just render the pc useless and unable to read the cd?

Thanks for your time, any help would be amazing. Oh, and I tried every troubleshooting option out there for the past 3 days so that won't work.

Specs, if you want to know: Processor: AMD fx-4300 Quad Core 3.81 Gz RAM: 8.00GB System/OS: Windows 7 64-bit

My GPU is a GTX 1050 but I doubt that this matters
