Ideas on how to share resources between two computers gaming computer builder

Scenario: * Have Thinkpad X1 Carbon, connected to Lenovo docking station and Full HD monitor and keyboard. It's a proprietary docking station so I want to keep it connected in current setup.

• Received older Dell Precision laptop, no docking station.

Want:

• Want to be able to set up the Dell Precision laptop (which has VGA display capabilities) so that it can connect to the Full HD monitor AND I want it to also use keyboard.

• I'd like to be able to switch the Dell and the X1 Carbon back and forth as seemlessly as possible, so that it shares the monitor and keyboard.

I welcome suggestions, and let me know if I can help anyone as well. I'm just trying to put my head around all this so that I get the optimal setup.
