1070 (or ?) vs 970 SLI, but with a twist...I only need one 970 to do it gaming computer builder

I was running dual SLI 970 SCs, but one died. I'm trying to get MSI to RMA it but, being it is out of warranty, I doubt that's going to work. So, reddit, what would my recommended upgrade be, now that I am running a single MSI 970 SC on an SLI board? Another 970, or ditch the 970 and get a 1070? The 1060 seems a pretty minuscule upgrade, for the money.

I am not going to do VR, and I don't plan on going 4K any time soon.
