Why do some monitors only have VGA? gaming computer builder

I just upgraded from a crappy $70 19" dell monitor to a ViewSonic 22" monitor with DVI. On the DELL there is no DVI! Even monitors form 2005 have DVI! My new monitor is much clearer and sharper than the DELL. Is it because I am using DVI or because the monitor is better? Why do these low end monitors only have VGA?
