Got my laptop fixed. I have a suspicion that they did not fix what I asked for. Details inside. gaming computer builder

I have owned an ASUS K501LX laptop for almost two years and have never had any serious problems. About a year and a half into its life the left hinge loosened but led to no change in the functionality of the computer. Recently I started having a problem in which the screen would freeze up. It wouldn't respond to anything unless I moved the display back and forth and found a 'sweet spot' that would change periodically and require to be moved again. I got tired of having to hold the monitor to be able to use my laptop and had neither the time, tools, or requisite knowledge to fix the problem myself. I started calling computer repair places around me and found a store that would fix it. I brought it in and they told me that they would let me know the following day how they would intervene. I got a call the next day saying that they would order me a new display cable and that it should be ready to go in 3-4 days. I presumed originally that the cable was the problem so I had no trouble accepting the wait.

Here's where things get a little fishy. The day after they told me what they were going to do they call me telling me that my laptop is working and ready to be picked up. I was surprised that they managed to get the cable so quickly but was happy to have a working computer so I didn't ask any questions. I started using the computer more and started to get annoyed that they had changed the resolution of the monitor so I tried to change it back and windows did not list the native resolution of my display (1920x1080) as an option. I then realized that my dedicated graphics card was not connected to the display directly and called the repair shop asking whether they might not have connected it properly and that was causing my problem. They said that there might be a problem with my graphics card or display which they could replace. I hung up because I could tell that they weren't going to help me anymore after I asked about a few other software solutions which the repair guy deflected back towards replacing the monitor. I then noticed upon using my computer that the bottom part of the screen has a discoloration to it that was not present before the repair.

Here's what I think happened: I think that they did not order the replacement cable and instead found an old laptop screen with a lower resolution than my old monitor and replaced that instead of buying the new cable. Now you may be asking: Why tell us this? I am hoping someone can help me figure out how I can check if my suspicion is true. If anyone could help me determine if the display I have now is not the same display that comes with my laptop model, I would appreciate that greatly.
